Huntsville Towing

Huntsville is the last major service centre before Highway 11 runs north into thinner coverage, and Highway 60 east is the main route to Dwight, Lake of Bays and Algonquin Park. Both carry heavy seasonal traffic — park visitors in summer and fall, ski and snowmobile traffic in winter — and both produce tow calls a long way from the nearest garage.

Around town, the Highway 11 interchanges and the climb on Main Street East see stalled vehicles regularly. Further out, calls come from cottage roads around Peninsula Lake and Lake Vernon where lanes are steep, gravel and easy to slide off in shoulder season.

Huntsville calls often involve longer runs than the rest of Muskoka. A vehicle that dies on Highway 60 east of Dwight may be 40 minutes from the nearest shop, and the truck has to drive that distance twice. Being accurate about where you are — kilometre marker, gate number, trailhead or map pin — genuinely changes how quickly you get moving.

Cell coverage is patchy east of Huntsville and north of Novar. If you have a signal, make the call while you have it and stay where you are; a spot with reception that you then leave is worse than a fixed location that's easy to describe.
